An immediate compliance order is a fast-track enforcement tool used when urgent action is needed to protect public health, safety, or welfare and to bring someone into instant compliance with the Act and regulations. The authority to issue this kind of order rests with the Director, who is the senior regulator responsible for overseeing compliance and taking swift action across the province. This role includes directing licensees, operators, or other parties to stop noncompliant practices, remedy a condition immediately, or provide required information right away, with the order taking effect immediately.

The Registrar handles licensing and routine administrative enforcement actions, but not the urgent enforcement power represented by an immediate compliance order. The Ontario Land Tribunal deals with appeals and disputes, not issuing immediate compliance orders. Municipal Council enforces local by-laws and municipal rules, which is separate from the provincial enforcement tool used for immediate compliance under the relevant act.
